Ya’ll knew this wouldn’t last. (the definition of marriage part) Didn’t you know it? Didn’t you? Even if the Supreme Court had found a way around deciding the issue or had decided in favor of the status quo, the question of same-sex marriage would drag its way up to them (or the Legislature) to be answered again and again. I don’t know that I’ve taken a public stance on same-sex marriage but here goes: to each his own. It may not be very Christian but it is certainly very American. Because the privilege of tax cuts and the other one thousand or so federal benefits of being married should be given to whoever wants them. I’m very proud of the Supreme Court for taking a solid stance. They made a decision. It’s not one of those wishy washy sort of decisions. It’s like, “yeah ya’ll, marriage can be between anybody but animals.”
It’s not like same-sex couples were going to disappear. No congressman/woman was going to legislate them away. Might as well legally recognize their relationships and learn the true meaning of tolerance, if not acceptance.
This is probably not one of those issues I would riot in the streets about, but I have friends who would like to be married and who should receive the same benefits that I would receive if I ever got married. Hmph!
Ya’ll know what else I wouldn’t riot for?
Extracurricular activities for students at public schools.
Probably wouldn’t protest for an increase in teachers’ pay rates.
I would definitely bring protestors some water or a snack or something because they are worthy causes.
Just not my thing 🙂
